My son was diagnosed at 32 weeks pregnant. I delivered him at 37 weeks in Houston, TX. He spent almost 3 weeks at the NICU at Texas Childrens Hospital. After he was born during his first head ultrasound they discovered that he had a bleed on his brain grade 3 on the left 4 on the right, we had 2 MRI's 1 MRV, and 1 MRA. 2 CT scans and several Ultrasounds. The team of doctors ran every test they could to figure why he got this and still 2 months later they are still scratching their heads. His neurosurgeons decided not to intervine at this time even though it is a great deal of fluid so he will be closely monitored. Due to all the blood test the Hemotoligist and genetics doctors ran in the hospital he became enemic, and they thought he might require a transfusion but seems that his blood levels are coming up now.
Right now he is doing very good he is sluggish a little doesn't want to hold his head up when I lift him, and his movements are a little scattered but we are working with ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) to work on that so he doesn't miss his mildstones or miss them by to much.
He was born September 27, 2007 he was 6lbs and 5oz 18.5 inches long and he has already doubled his birth weight.
Well Feb 26th we had a follow up with his hemotologist and had another factor 9 blood test done which finally came back within normal ranges of 79% followed by another routine cat scan. On the 27th we followed up with his neurosurgeon at Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston and so far everything is the same no more no less. Due to the bleed before he was born on the right side of his brain I have noticed he doesn't move his left arm as much as his right so his therapist and I are working on his left side of his body so it doesn't delay him to much. He is 5 months old now and is a happy baby who can't wait until he can eat real food. Everybody compliments me on what a good baby he is and he really is the best. I have noticed that he is a thumb sucker he has been sucking his thumb the last couple of weeks.
Well recently we went to the Neurosurgeon for a head measure to make sure it is stable which it is he only went up by .5 in six weeks. Jonathan's doctor is very hopeful that surgery will not be required in his case. I can't believe he is almost 10 months old now time has been flying. About a month ago he finally consistantly figured out how to roll from his back to his belly, but due to the brain damage from his bleed his left hand just basically hangs there, when he rolls from his belly to his back he looks like he only has one arm because he is laying on the other one, usually I have to pull it out from under him but a couple of days ago he did it himself and I couldn't have been more shocked or proud all at the same time. His neurosurgeon set our next appointment in September then we will see if he needs another cat scan or not. He is an excellent eater although lately he doesn't want his bottles I have to fight him to take it then he does and he is fine. He and big brother play very well together and they laugh so much it's completely contagious and I can't help myself. We went to the eye doctor a few months ago and everything looks good there she said to come back in 5 years. Other than that things are going really well. I had to temporarily stop his therapy but we are starting that up again towards the end of the month beginning of next. That is all I guess until September.
