My name is Victoria and I am 14. I have hydrocephalus caused by aqueductal stenosis that was diagnosed when my mom was 5 months pregnant with me. Up until that piont my parents did not know what hydrocephalus was and they worried about long term effects of it. I was born by c-section and at first sight everything looked good but just a cuple of hours later my head started to buldge so they took my to childrens hosptial and I had my first surgery at 21 hours old were they placed a VP shunt.

I have had a tolatlof 27 shunt related surgeys, two failed third venticulostomys, one tube replacements, two intacranial pressure gages and 21 shunt revisions. My last surgey was in september of last year but the last shunt revision was in 1999. At this point the only real long term effect is that I have polycyclic ovary syndrome witch the doctors think is caused by the hydrocephalus. I also have sever migraines. But other than that I do not have any health effect caused by the hydrocephalus.

Today I am a nomal 14 year old high school sophomore and although I have had a constant headach since february 2004 witch the doctors can not figure out, I am happy and healthy and glad to be going back to school soon.

Even though everyone says that I have had a tough life I konw that there are people out there who's lives are worse and because of that I have a positive out look on the future and on life in general. Good luck to all who share there storiesand there childrens stories.
