Tyler was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at my 20 weeks scan, we had never heard of it before and it was a big shock. I had to have loads of scans to keep an eye on the size of his head, then i was induced at 38 weeks. tyler went straight to special care and was there for 3 weeks until he had his shunt then he was transfered to sheffield childrens hospital why he recoverd from the operation.he ws there for a couple of weeks hen was allowed home at last. he was fine for a couple of months then we noticed something was wrong as he wouldnt take his bottles and was very irratable, we took him to chesterfield hospital and they were worried his shunt was blocked so he was transfered to sheffield childrens hospital. The neurosugens sent him for a ct scan which showed his sunt was blocked after loads of tests they found his shunt was infected and he had meningitis. they had to remove the shunt and put a external drain in, he also had to have a ng tube to feed him which he still has because he still isnt drinking and is on the waiting list for a gastrostomy.Tyler was in hospital for 7 weeks and was allowed home once the meningitis had gone. he had to go back a few weeks later for a new shunt. tyler is one now but he has to see a physio because he cant hold his head up properly yet so he is not sitting as his head is heavy.
